Q. What do cats, humans and meditations have in common?

A. Gamma Waves (frequency 25-100hz)

Cats like to nap rather than sleep but if relaxed enough to enter a deeper sleep, they produce the same brain wave patterns that we do when we dream.

A cat purrs at a frequency of 30-80hz which can be equivalent to a Gamma wave in humans known as the insight wave. Gamma waves in humans range from 25-100hz, with 40hz being the average.

People with high Gamma wave activity tend to have high IQ’s.

Researchers at the University of Bonn in Germany say they have an explanation for the new states of consciousness that arise as a result of meditation – gamma brain wave states, associated with expert-level meditation, assist in the reshaping of brain structures that persist beyond actual periods of meditation.

EGG readings for expert meditators (those who have practiced rigorously for years or decades) show something quite different: high-frequency gamma waves, sometimes thought to play a role in assimilating perceptions, are sharply increased. This certainly distinguishes expert meditators from their novice counterparts. But perhaps the most interesting finding is that gamma wave readings are also higher even when the experts aren’t meditating. This means that something about how advanced meditators experience the world appears to be fundamentally different, both during meditation and everyday activities, from how non-meditators or beginners experience it.

•  One of the most remarkable properties of the gamma state is the processing speed: the brain is able to process incredible amounts of information very quickly, remember it, and retrieve that memory later.

•  People with high gamma activity are naturally happier, calmer and more at peace. This is Nature’s best anti-depressant (people suffering from depression typically have very low gamma activity).

•  Gamma waves are present during REM sleep and visualization.

Compassion comes from a feeling of one-ness with all creation. This is the “feeling of blessings” and ecstasy that accompanies high levels of gamma brainwave activity.

Neuroscientists believe that people can train themselves to produce more of the gamma frequency and it is believed that focusing on compassion and love is the way to do this.

Something remarkable happened when a study was done on the brainwaves of monks. They were asked to focus on feelings of compassion and their brain almost immediately went into the gamma frequency.

So gamma is a natural state of consciousness.

As you meditate with the help of meditation music and begin feeling that wonderful warmth of one-ness where you lose the sense of self and “melt” into universal consciousness, hang on to that feeling. Focus on it. Expand on it. Embody it. Feel love emanating from you and permeating you. Focus on love…and you will soon feel the ecstasy and bliss of gamma!

Now we know why the purring of cats makes us feel relaxed!

Interesting facts about your cat

  • Cats were originally desert living animals, this is why they like and tolerate heat.

  •

  • Cats cannot taste thing that are sweet, the taste buds of a cat cannot detect sugar.

  •

  • Cats can see at 1/6 the light level required for human vision.

  •

  • Abraham Lincoln was a cat lover and kept 4 cats with him at the Whitehouse.

  •

  • Cats can hear ultrasonic sounds that dogs and humans cannot.

  •

  • Your domestic house cat can run at 30mph

Gamma Brainwaves have been recorded as the fastest brainwave frequencies that a human can reach. Ranging from about 40 Hz – 70 Hz (though some can reach upwards of 100 Hz called Hypergamma), this state is said to be rare and associated with optimal states of consciousness. An overall sense of compassion and love for others, a new sense of spiritual awareness, self-control, happiness, and increased intelligence are just some of the effects that are said to be associated with Gamma Brainwaves. It’s thought by many researchers that this is the state of harmonization – it brings together all thought forms of the brain to a synchronized state.
